Time to Greet the Heat

Summer is here! In the Philippines at least, it’s happening.

Technically labeled the hot and dry season in this Southeast Asian archipelago, this familiar heatwave has officially begun. Well, it's clearly apparent due to the rising temperatures. If you’re currently residing in this myriad of islands or just visiting, the existence of sunny weather typically prevails between the months of March to May during the year. You simply can't ignore the burning heat that bites your skin. Ouch!

And while there are plenty of ways to beat the scorching atmosphere, some people prefer to indulge in its intense warmth - including myself.

One of the favorite places to bask in the sunny weather is by definitely heading to the beach. And whether you're swimming in its aquamarine waters or merely enjoying its sandy shoreline, you surely can't escape its hot caress.

And to quench your travel needs for coastal adventures, the Philippine province of Cebu is a proven hotbed of beaches, scuba diving spots, sandbars, plus aquatic habitats thriving with all sorts of marine life.

Speaking of sugar-white sandbars, I couldn't help but reminisce about my unforgettable escapade at Sumilon Island, an exotic destination situated at the southernmost tip of the island of Cebu.

Recalling beautiful memories from a few summers ago, our excursion consisted of an interesting bunch of friends where the majority of my companions were women with some men.

Because of our huge number, we had to hire an enormous motorized boat to transport us to the tiny islet of Sumilon from mainland Cebu. It would take less than an hour to get to this highly sought-after tourist attraction. In fact, the port of departure was quite close to the famous whale watching habitat located in the municipality of Oslob.

The journey to Sumilon Island was undoubtedly a thrilling experience in itself, demonstrating the marvelous beauty of the surrounding sea environment for our sensual pleasure.

Did you know that Sumilon Island is also home to a world-class accommodation called the Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort? Although this renowned landmark was a stone’s throw away from our destination, we decided to only savor the island’s attractive sandbar for that particular day and eventually check-in to the nearby hotel in the near future.

Stunning beachscapes! That was our immediate reaction the moment our water vessel docked at the sandbar. Now, who wouldn't be mesmerized by the captivating scenery of this gorgeous piece of heaven?

Standing at the shoreline, my friends and I took the time to appreciate the tremendous splendor of Mother Nature. Pure. Serene. Calm. Magical. We were speechless!

Walking further away from the coast, the sandbar’s ever-changing shape slowly revealed itself, blossoming into a picturesque panorama that blended all the natural elements of sky, sea, and land into one priceless perspective as far as the eyes could see. Breathtaking!

As a result, the excited ladies of my tour group didn't hesitate to immortalize the photo opportunities, hence producing iconic poses as visual souvenirs for this interesting trip.

Foreign tourists were likewise blown away by the tropical paradise they were strolling on. And if there was one activity that keeps them coming back to Cebu’s Sumilon Island for more, that would be sunbathing!

Hey, it's really getting hotter by the second. Now, if you’d excuse me, I need to take a dip to cool down. Care to join me?
