Children’s Paradise: Danao City’s Modest Playground

It’s a tremendous pleasure to be back to the wonderful city of Danao! Situated on the northern territory of the Philippine island of Cebu, it’s an astonishing destination worth exploring.

If you’ve experienced my first adventure inside this humble metropolis, it started at her coastal edge where you can enjoy interesting attractions. Today’s travel episode is a continuation of the amazing sites that she nurtures - waiting to be discovered by curious tourists like me.

Although not a massive metropolis compared to other highly developed urban centers in the province of Cebu, Danao City also hosts remarkable places of interest that appeal to locals and visitors alike traveling in groups - particularly families with kids.

Let me introduce to you their public playground - also known as Children’s Paradise where people can relax, eat, entertain, and most importantly, where kids can simply energize through active play. In fact, you can also consider it a park, if you will, where lush flora, trimmed grass, ornamental plants, and tall trees abound.

Nestled right in front of their City Hall, a grayish building sporting a Brutalist-inspired architecture, the Children’s Paradise warmly welcomes folks from all walks of life.

This public park is also a stone’s throw away from the city’s Plaza Rizal (also known as Danao Plaza), another spacious green environment paying tribute to the country’s iconic hero.

From the national highway, it’s clearly visible on the left side if you’re heading northwards. If you’re still confused, the main entrance to the Danao City Port is the most recognizable landmark situated just across the road from the park. Despite being constructed along a bustling thoroughfare where vehicular traffic and unwanted pollution were imminent, this green space managed to remain refreshing, clean, and desirable.

Now, I bet you wouldn't get lost with all the provided directions, would you?

This exquisite park was enclosed by a long terracotta-painted perimeter fence supporting wrought iron bars serving as secure barricades but without visual obstructions. And while strolling on the sidewalk, I clearly noticed that this side of Children’s Paradise had an emblematic guardian elevated on a tall concrete pedestal.

This imposing gatekeeper, in the form of a distinguished soldier dressed for war and ready for combat, was raising his weapon up high. The fascinating sculpture was molded out of reinforced concrete and probably depicted bravery, strength, and victory as translated from his striking pose. What would be your personal interpretation?

Upon entering the park, I was greeted by a wide pathway that divided the entire landmark in half. And on both sides, you can explore its various collections of amenities organized properly in their respective sections.

Majority of the technical equipment installed there was certainly related to its playground function. Slides. Swings. Seesaws. To name a few…

At the center of the park was an ingenious contraption of metal slides and ladders - surrounded by a circular platform consisting of a garden of plants, decorative grass, a paved walkway, and curved concrete benches. The prevailing weather was scorching hot, so obviously no children were playing during those moments.

There was even an open-air courtyard with a roofed trellis housing tables and chairs for visitors. This special space was adjacent to a small canteen (food store) where meals, snacks, and drinks were sold. Most people were hanging out in this area to take advantage of the cool shade.

And if there was one fantastic highlight of Children’s Paradise that I couldn't ignore, that would be the incredibly colorful assembly of climbing, exercise, and maze-like equipment tucked away in one corner. This distinctive section of the park was definitely my favorite spectacle!

And last but not the least, we are back to our park’s guardian again - standing tall to inspire the playful children sharing unforgettable memories in this marvelous habitat. Although the Children’s Paradise isn't as grand, complete, and luxurious as you’d expect, it still offered fundamental standards to promote fun, adventure, and play - especially to the younger generations of society. It was still an exceptional landmark! Isn't it?

Until our next escapade in Danao City, happy travels!
